'Magic Trick' At The New York Photo FestivalThere's something magical about watching an image develop in your hands. It's also instantly gratifying to have a tangible print just moments after it's taken. These are pleasures afforded almost solely by Polaroids -- pleasures on the verge of extinction, unless someone can reinvent the ridiculously complicated, 20-part film packs. (The title of this effort to reinvent Polaroids articulates the likelihood of success.)

1942 Ford Woody Super Deluxe

Many years ago, my college roommate showed me a photo of a car that his dad had restored, a 1942 Ford Woodie Super Deluxe. It was apparently one of approximately 115 cars left on the Ford assembly line when the war effort really stepped up in 1942. These 115 cars were taken to a nearby coachworks factory, and stretched into 6-door limousines to be used as officers cars during WWII. Most of these cars were painted in an olive drab color, and shipped to Europe, never to return stateside again.

Our car somehow made the cut, and remained on domestic soil. It's been restored...although it's an older restoration. We occasionally pull it out of storage to wow our woody enthusiast friends at the Santa Cruz Woody club in California.

What a beauty she is. 6 doors, 4 rows of benchseats, room for 10-12 people and a cooler of beer.

Surfing Puerto Escondido

It's been about two years since I have been down to Puerto Escondido. However, i recently came across some videos from that trip and decided to load them up to YT.

This first one was of a medium sized wave that opened up for a long barrel into the inside. This was actually my first wave that I took off on during that vacation, and it was a great way to start things off.

On the same day, I got a number of other similar waves that seemed to open up for easy tube rides. This one felt like I could have driven a VW bus through it.

Re-Living the past in a Westfalia

OK, so we all like to live a bit back in the high school glory days. Well, for me the glory days are largely summed up by a couple of vehicles which made it all happen. Very high up on that list would be my 1969 Wesfalia camper, which was a hand-me-down from our grandfather.

Here is a very darn close example of one on eBay.

This one even happens to be photographed right along the same stretch of beach that I used to 'cruise' during high school to check out the surf on a daily, or even sometimes hourly basis. I might have to place a bid for the heck of it.
